September 6th is a lesser-known feast of our heavenly patron, St. Michael, the Chief Commander of the Bodiless Hosts. Following on from last Sunday’s homily that surveyed some of the past triumphs and present needs of our parish, today’s Gospel about the two greatest commandments inspires us to ask: What is the purpose of a parish church anyway? And how are prayer and service to be lived out in our life together at St. Michael’s?
